Edition 11:
Maps
are essential for the drafting of the initial project proposals. Maps showing
built-up areas, rivers, roads and physical barriers are needed to make sensible
proposals for the design of local, intermediate, and project level social,
financial, and productive structures. Information on population distribution in
the project area with details of existing services such as schools, clinics,
wells, hand pump installations enable draft projects to be prepared efficiently
and rapidly. "Official" local maps or military maps may not always be available.
Modern support data such as that offered by Google Earth ® may not have the
necessary definition. In that case, the local maps must be drawn by hand. They
can be in a schematic form. They do not need to be accurate, but they must be to
scale, and the scale used must be
indicated.
