Note that is available a 5 cm layer of pumice should be placed at the bottom of the filter media. The role of this pumice layer is basically to rid the water of organ chlorides, and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) as well as other micro-elements or ions like those from phosphorus, lead, iron and manganese.
