Part 1.17.00 Annual and periodic reports of the Association.

08 -  Annual report to 31/12/2009

Report to the board under article 5 of the Director’s rules  (in Dutch) dated 25/10/2005 with statement of profits and losses for the book year ending 31/12/2009.

This is the eighth report on the activities of Stichting Bakens Verzet (NGO “Another Way”). The report describes the activities of the Association from 1/1/2009 to 31/12/2009. A period report for the period 1/1/2009 tot 30/6/2009 was approved by the board on 21/7/2008. That report  forms an integral part of this annual report.

The period 1/7/2009 – 31/12/2009 was primarily dedicated to the drafting of the French version of the e-learning course at post-masters level for the Diploma in Integrated Development described in the earlier report and its translation into English. The French language version of the course was completed with one day to spare on 29th September 2009. The English version was completed, except for the references and key word lists, on 31st December 2009.  Preparation of the course material took 13 months’ full time work. The course has been made available for use by all free of charge at website www.flowman.nl

Assistance was given to the editing of the paper by L.F.Manning “The Ripple Starts Here”, on the mechanics of the current financial system. The paper was presented at the 50th Anniversary Conference New Zealand  Association of Economists (NZAE)  2nd July, 2009, and then published at website www.flowman.nl.

Extended assistance was given to the local NGO Naabi-Aba, Makalondi. Niger in connection with its application to the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) for finance for a project favouring the participation of women candidates at local and national elections in Niger.

A detailed proposal for the preparation of a regional development plan for the Katanga Region in R.D. Congo was prepared in cooperation with the Association “Maisha Bora Haut Katanga 2015” of  Lubumbashi. The project was posted to website www.flowman.nl towards the end of September 2009.

A detailed proposal for the Barisal District Integrated Development Plan “Barisal 2015” was prepared in cooperation with Aid Organization, Barisal, Bangladesh and published at website www.flowman.nl at the end of December 2009.

The homepage of website www.flowman.nl was visited about 35 times a day. The total average number of hits on the website reached 1000 a day. Website statistics have been kept since 15/8/2006. In the period from 15/08/2006 to 31/12/2009 some 23.000 visits to the homepage had been registered. Monthly traffic on the website reached 6 gigabytes.  The website is highly ranked by all search engines on a wide range of development-related topics. Details of these searches are provided at the website.

The Director worked the whole year free of charge in the interests of the Association. In view of  the limited  funds available in the Association’s bank account,  the Director has renounced making a call  for reimbursement of costs under   The Director’s Rules (document in Dutch) dated 25/10/2005.

The balance on bank account 78.13.27.598 with the Triodos Bank in Zeist as at 31/12/2009 was Euro 208,06.

The potential value of  the Association lies in the (non commercial) immaterial value of the Model for Integrated Development Projects and in the Association’s e-learning course for the Diploma in Integrated Development. The Association may act as consultant for the execution of integrated development projects in developing countries subject to payment of a modest per diem fee covering accommodation and keep. Tutor-led courses for the Diploma in Integrated Development will be charged for on a tutor-cost recovery only basis. As at 31/12/2009 none of the proposed integrated development projects had been financed.

The Director remains available for the continuation of the work of the Association in 2010, and requests that the board to approve this report for the year 2009 and his nomination as Director  for 2010.
