The long term goals of the
project are:
a)To sustain on-going
improvement of the general quality of life well-being and health of the local
people.
b)To reduce, and if possible
eliminate, financial leakage from the project area.
c)To free more human
resources for local production and development.
d)To reduce water-borne
diseases so that medical staff and financial resources can be re-directed to
other health objectives such as vaccination programmes and preventive medicine.
e)To decrease infant
mortality and promote family planning.
f)To increase literacy
levels.
g)To eliminate dependency on
fuels imported from outside the project area.
h)To help reduce
deforestation and global warming.
i)To create value added from
locally recycled non-organic solid waste.
j)To create a
"maintenance culture" to conserve the investments made.
k)To increase the local pool
of expertise so that local people can improve their sustainable well-being and
development by identifying and solving problems, including erosion, with a
minimum of outside help.
l)To create full employment
in the project area.
m) To halt the migration of
young people from the project area to shanty towns in the large cities.
