Part 1.10 Introduction to (NGO) Stichting Bakens Verzet

Bakens Verzet is a Dutch name. It can be translated into English as “Another Way”.

Help for people in difficulty.

The NGO is a non-profit organisation.

The NGO supports people who are in a difficult personal situation in the Netherlands and in developing countries to attain a quality of life they consider to be reasonable through the promotion of independent cooperative productive activities.

Most of the work of Bakens Verzet is dedicated to the creation of social, economic and productive poverty alleviation  structures  in developing countries. This work is in the public domain and full information on it can be downloaded from website www.flowman.nl, which is widely recognised by search engines as a leading site on integrated development issues for the world’s poor.

Priority is given in the NGO’s statutes to assisting the following social groups to set up  new independent productive activities:

1.        People over 50 years of age, especially qualified people with much working experience, who are victims of age-discrimination in the labour market.

2.        Young unemployed with few prospects of normal employment;

3.        Without competing with existing social services, to help the handicapped set up independent cooperative productive work activities as near as possible to their place of residence.

In projects in developing countries this involves creating productive employment for large numbers of people in each project area , greatly increasing the quality of life there, and thereby stopping migration of people from rural areas to poor urban environments. This can only be done by addressing the gender issue so that women, typically responsible for most productive activities in rural areas in developing countries, can play a  leading role in the social, economic, and productive structures set up.

                        The NGO tries to attain its goals by:

1.Carrying out and supporting, where necessary in cooperation with educational institutes, research on new ethically and ecologically responsible industrial and agricultural  materials, processes and related services including copyrights and the deposit of models and patents;
2. Carrying out and supporting ecologically responsible integrated development projects for the world’s poor;
3. Supporting and developing (where necessary in phases) independently and/or  cooperatively executed ecologically responsible industrial and agricultural activities and associated services;
4. Storage, import and export , purchase, sale and distribution of independently and/or  cooperatively executed ecologically responsible industrial and agricultural products;
5. Promoting of independently and/or  cooperatively executed ecologically responsible industrial and agricultural products and associated services;

6. Contributing to social reform and social integration through the promotion of  independent and/or cooperative productive activities and services carried out under voluntary interest-free inflation-free local economic structures and alternative local money systems.

Approved by the board of the NGO in Amsterdam on 25th October 2005.
