Edition 9:
Tools required : Allen key size 8mm (6MA) mallet (plastic or wood);
(optional) a vice. MAKE SURE THE ALLEN KEY IS OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY- IT MUST
FIT PERFECTLY IN THE SCREW SOCKET OTHERWISE YOU WILL HAVE DIFFICULTY LOOSENING
THE SCREWS AND RISK DAMAGING THEM. IF IN DOUBT, ORDER THE NECESSARY ALLEN KEYS.
Solar Spring pumps with 3mm cams are usually sold with an inertia
amplifier. Elastic element (part 319) and ovoid centerer (part320) have been
removed.
When replacing a 3mm cam with a cam of different size, MAKE SURE YOU PUT AN
ELASTIC ELEMENT GROUP INSIDE THE ELEMENT CHAMBER (316)
When replacing a cam of different size with a 3mm cam AND you intend to make
use of an inertia amplifier, MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE THE ELASTIC ELEMENT GROUP
FROM ELEMENT THE CHAMBER (316)

SHOULD REMOVAL OF OIL BE NECESSARY
To release the pump body and camshaft assembly from the motor (343),
undo the four screws (342) using an Allen key. Gently ease the pump body group
(363 etc) off the cam shaft (338).The camshaft assembly is then fully
accessible projecting from the top of the motor,
Use the Allen key to loosen the lower grub screw (341) in the cam
connector (340) nearest the motor (343). Remove the cam connector (340) with
the cam shaft (338) inside. The motor shaft usually fits tightly inside the cam
connector (340).
Use the Allen key to loosen the upper grub screw (341) in the cam
connector (340). The cam shaft (338) usually fits very tightly inside the cam
connector (340).
Place the cam connector (340) in a vice with the cam shaft (338)
pointing down, and use a small wooden mallet with a blunt instrument (or
eventually, a screwdriver) to tap the cam shaft out of the cam connector. It
does not matter if the small connector key (339) comes out with the camshaft.
Note : The cam-shaft (338) may need substituting on installation for
optimisation purposes or, after many years' use, on account of wear and tear.
It needs replacing if there are signed of an uneven or worn surface on its
central oval section where it is in contact with the vertical bearings (347)
IMPORTANT
WARNING Never use a metal hammer on the cam shaft (338) and use the least force
necessary to drive the cam shaft as gently as possible into position. The cam
shaft (338) is made from specially hardened steel and is brittle. Excess force
and/or use a metal hammer may lead to damage to or cracking of the new cam
shaft. The manufacturer will not answer for any failure to use the maximum care
in the fitting of the cam shaft.
Gently tap the cam connector (340) back on to the motor (343) shaft and tighten the lower grub screw (341).
Make sure the connector key (339) and the connector key slots of the
motor and the new cam shaft are aligned. If the connector key (339) came out
when the original camshaft was removed, remember to insert it in the key slot
on the replacement camshaft (or else in the motor shaft key slot inside the cam
connecter (340) before putting the replacement cam shaft (338) into the cam
connector (340).

Using a wooden mallet, tap the replacement camshaft (338) home until it
rests against the top of the motor shaft. A change in the tapping sound should
be heard when the new camshaft has reached its correct "home"
position.

Re-tighten the upper camshaft grub-screw (341).
