MAINTENANCE

Oil inside the pump body group

The pump body/piston group is filled with approximately 40 millilitres of oil. The presence of the oil inside the pump body group is important to ensure that several essential pump parts, such as the cam shaft, the shaft bearings, the pistons, retain their characteristics of long duration. The oil used must by regulation be non-toxic in order to protect water quality. The oil in Solar Spring pumps at the moment of transfer of property in the pump is warranted non toxic. It is the personal responsibility of the operator opening any pump to ensure that replacement oil in the pump group be non-toxic and duly approved for the purpose.
We recommend the use of (names of suitable products)
The non-toxic oil in the pump will escape :
1) On removal of the pump body (332) group off the cam shaft (338). So long as the pump body (332) remains on the cam shaft, the oil seal (336) should, in normal circumstances, retain the oil inside the pump body group.
2) On removal of the piston groups as set out on page 04.18 of this section.
As set out on pages 04.05 and 04.06 of this manual, it is possible to remove the entire motor and pump group from the motor shroud (358) for the purposes of changing the motor brushes (344) without loss of oil from the system.
As set out on pages 04.13 and 04.14 of this manual, it is possible to remove the ovoid chamber (315) group for the purposes of fitting or removing Hyboost hydraulic boosters, without loss of oil from the system.
As set out on pages 04.15, 04.16, and 04.17 of this section, it is possible to remove the valve chamber (326) group for the purposes of valve maintenance, without loss of oil from the system.
Recommendation :The non toxic oil inside the pump group can be conserved and re-utilised where the piston groups are removed as set out on page 04.17 of this section, provided the oil seal (336) is still working against the cam shaft (338). Before removing the pump body (332) off the cam shaft (338), take apart one of the piston (350) groups as on page 04.18 and turn the pump around to drain oil from the system into an appropriate recipient.
