INDEX TO PERFORMANCE TABLES

Preliminary note

Solar installations are influenced by numerous local environmental and system factors, which are such that any table of performances and capacities must be considered indicative only. By way of example, voltage loss along the supply cable can reduce the real voltage available at the pump, so that the performance of one pump fitted with a long supply cable will necessarily be lower than that of another pump using a shorter supply line, even though the actual total head may be the same for both units. Similar factors may affect the areas of application of the pumps. Low voltage systems, such for example, as two panel or 24V battery driven systems, may show proportionately greater sensitivity to local environmental and system factors than 48V four panel systems.

Solar Spring pumps are piston pumps. Each pump has two identical horizontal axis pistons with a diameter of 40mm. Potential pump capacity is related to the 40mm diameter of the pistons and the length of the stroke they make. Total displacement, and therefore the amount of water pumped, increases with the length of the stroke.  With a 2mm cam, each piston operates over a stroke of 1mm; a 2.2mm cam over 1.1mm;  a 2.6mm cam over 1.3mm; and a 3mm cam over 1.5mm.

Total heads for the various cam sizes are indicative. They are seldom critical. A golden rule is : the smaller the photovoltaic arrays used, and the lower the expected solar irradiation at the installation site,  the more conservative the user should be with the chosen cam. Smaller cam units are easier to kick-start and work better in low current and irradiation conditions. In case of doubt, consult your supplier.

1)Tables for 3mm cams. For total heads up to 45 metres.
2)Tables for 2.6mm cams. For total heads up to 70 metres.
3)Tables for 2.2mm cams. For total heads up to 100 metres.
4)Tables for 2.0mm cams. For total heads up to 150 metres.
